Electrical and hydraulic systems

Electrical and hydraulic systems are an integral part of current and future aircraft. They provide necessary power for safety relevant functions of the aircraft, such as actuation of control surfaces for flight control.

The safety and reliability of such technologies, both existing and novel, are therefore an important key research priority in aviation research. Areas of concern, that need to be addressed, span from single components, such as actuators, all the way to optimized multi-system architectures.

Our institute provides development and analysis capabilities with special focus on the considered systems in interdisciplinary research projects. The institute operates several specialized test rigs to further support and advance the development of novel aircraft systems and coming generations of aircraft. They provide demonstration and testing capabilities for actuators and avionics systems in hardware-in-the-loop experiments, that will make tomorrow’s aircraft both as safe and efficient as possible.
