The ailerons used in WISDOM for flutter suppression and maneuver and gust load alleviation are based on an innovative integral structural concept
Two load-bearing carbon-fiber-reinforced skins are combined with a closed spar, also made from this material. This design provides high torsional stiffness thanks to the closed spar and requires significantly fewer individual parts compared to conventional structural concepts. The reduced tooling requirements and the elimination of complex autoclave cycles enable cost-effective and rapid manufacturing using various production processes. In addition, the concept can be reliably applied even with very thin airfoil profiles.
