Our Christmas picture this year features Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland, a landscape in Northern Finland. Rovaniemi is the official hometown of Santa Claus and the city's most famous resident can be visited every year in Santa's village right in the Arctic Circle. The DEM shows the Finnish hillscape Vaara-Suomi around Rovaniemi in the center of the image. The 204 m high mountain Ounasvaara just East of the city center across the Kemijoki river is a local recreation area for its inhabitants and hosts a skiing center with even seven slopes.
The Microwaves and Radar Institute wishes you Merry Christmas 2021 and a Happy New Year 2022!
