Two Shadow Image, Kaufbeuren, Bärensee, recorded with DBF-SAR, an imaging radar system operated at the Insititute
This radar image was taken with the Institute's DBF-SAR (Digital Beam Forming SAR) system. It shows two shadows, a short and a long shadow. The short shadow is a radar shadow. It occurs where the radar signal does not reach. The illumination source, in this case the radar, flies along the upper edge of the image (north) from the left (west) to the right (east), so that the radar shadow falls downwards (south). The longer shadow is increased soil moisture, which is generated by a sun shadow and is detected and imaged by the radar. The image was recorded on October 22, 2018 at 9:55 am (7:55 UTC). The sun is facing south-east at this time (lower right corner of the image).
