Groups

The institute is organised in the following groups:

Melt Properties

The group's research topics include the measurement of fluid structure, thermophysical properties and atomic dynamics, the relationship between self, external and interdiffusion, the dependence on temperature, structure and alloy composition, and the relationship to viscous flow and crystal growth

Solidification

The group focuses on the dynamics of microstructure growth and evolution, the formation of metastable phases and multiphase formations, as well as segregation and spinodal decomposition

Engineering

The group focuses on the design, manufacture and integration of experimental hardware and equipment on multi-platform microgravity platforms

Theory & Simulation

The group deals with theoretical and simulation-based work on the relationship between fluid structure and dynamics, solid-liquid interfaces and their growth kinetics, as well as multiscale theory and simulation of dense fluids

Granular Matters

The group's research focuses on understanding the macroscopic properties of granular matter, microgravity and laboratory experiments for granular gases, liquids and packings, as well as theory and experiments on granular rheology

User Support

The group coordinates the preparation, implementation and evaluation of experiment series on board the International Space Station (ISS)

Surface Modification and Properties

The group focuses on the development of plasma processes for surface technology, surface modification and the development of diagnostic and analytical methods, as well as the investigation of plasma processes for the creation of new surfaces and materials
