Research associate Markus Mühmer talks about propulsion models for climate-neutral shipping in a radio interview for the science programme "Die Profis" with rbb Radioeins.

Shipping is to become climate-neutral by 2050 - one step towards this goal would have been a vote in favour of pricing CO2 emissions from shipping. However, the member states of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) have now postponed the vote on this - the USA in particular had opposed it. But even so, the goal of climate-neutral shipping in 25 years is an ambitious one.

A globally unique research vessel, a floating test laboratory that will offer the maritime industry in Germany new opportunities in the future - that's what this podcast episode is all about.

At the beginning of 2025, we commissioned the construction of an innovative modular research vessel. The aim is to use it to research the shipping of the future - emission-free, efficient and safe. With modern technology, sustainable drives and practical tests at sea, the ship will demonstrate how the transformation on the water can succeed and will itself be a test object.

In this podcast episode, journalist Bärbel Fening talks to Institute Director Prof Dr Sören Ehlers.
