GAIA-X 4 ROMS – Support and Remote-Operation of Automated and Networked Mobility Services

The GAIA-X 4 ROMS project is developing an ecosystem based on GAIA-X for the coordination and remote operation of large fleets of automated vehicles in order to support the transformation of the mobility system and the creation of new value networks.

Remote-Operation and Smart Managed Fleet.

GAIA-X 4 ROMS (Support and Remote-Operation of Automated and Networked Mobility Services) is a project of the GAIA-X 4 Future Mobility project family. The aim of the project is to develop a GAIA-X-based ecosystem of cooperation structures, processes and services for the coordination and management of automated and networked vehicle fleets. The aim is to demonstrate the extent to which GAIA-X can be used to transform the mobility system and create new value creation networks. The focus here is particularly on analysing large fleets of automated vehicles that can be accessed via remote operation. AI-supported methods are used to analyse and evaluate the data used for this purpose. GAIA-X 4 ROMS uses two use cases to show how the philosophy and technology of GAIA-X can be used profitably to reorganise our mobility system and create new value networks for digital transformation. They look at both the mobility of people and goods and develop approaches to achieve a high degree of operational efficiency, which in turn is a prerequisite for the sustainable design of the mobility system.

The DLR Institute of Transportation Systems performs the following tasks, among others:

  • Harmonisation of the architecture with regard to the Smart Managed Public Transport Fleet use case and implementation of data connectors
  • Transfer of the requirements from the use cases to the GAIA-X 4 ROMS data space
  • Strategic fleet management - offer design based on a time-varying demand taking into account defined quality targets
  • Monitoring of the Operational Design Domain (ODD) in the vehicle, provision of vehicle sensor and vehicle automation data to the remote operation workstation via GAIA-X. Provision of vehicle automation functions for use in the control centre.
  • ODD classifier, which enables ODD-compliant route planning
  • Dispatching (flexible and ad-hoc) to decide which, possibly automated, vehicles can be used to carry out an offer.
