Network meeting of the oemof modelling framework on 20-22 November 2024 in Oldenburg
- The event is aimed in particular at users and developers of the open source framework oemof.
- Registrations are still possible until 31 October 2024.
- The modelling framework was launched ten years ago. Since the end of 2022, oemof has been registered as a non-profit organisation. DLR has been a member since 2024.
- Focus: Energy, system modelling, open source
A three-day user workshop on the modelling framework oemof (Open Energy Modelling Framework) is being hosted by the Institute of Networked Energy Systems in Oldenburg from 20 to 22 November 2024. The event to mark the tenth anniversary of the software is aimed in particular at users who actively use the open source framework for their work, as well as developers who are involved in its collaborative further development. Registrations are still possible until 31 October 2024.
As a toolbox for modelling energy systems, oemof is particularly suitable for cross-sector projects. The software has a modular structure and enables the use of different models in one software framework. As a result, oemof enables comprehensible results that could not previously be achieved with this level of transparency using commercial software. "In addition to research applications, individual components are also used by companies. In particular, the system optimisation "solph" is relevant for investment planning and the thermodynamics calculation "TESPy" for mapping industrial processes," explains Dr Patrik Schönfeldt, coordinator of oemof activities at the institute.
The Institute of Networked Energy Systems is organising the biannual oemof workshop for the third time since 2019 and 2023. This time, the focus of the meeting will be on discussing possible applications of the software framework and identifying best practices. In order to gain an overview of fields of activity and personal expertise, individual application examples from the participants will be presented first. Among other things, this also involves describing problems and finding solutions together. The identification of common interests in the further development and maintenance of the software will also be focussed on: On the two following days, selected topics ranging from documentation and tutorials to the planning of further software development will be explored in greater depth in conceptual discussions with a focus on results.
The oemof modelling framework was launched around ten years ago as a joint initiative of the Reiner Lemoine Institute (RLI), the University of Magdeburg and the Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems (ZNES - Europa-Universität/Hochschule Flensburg). It is run by a broad, international community, of which the Institute of Networked Energy Systems has been a member for several years. Since the end of 2022, oemof has been operating as a non-profit association, of which DLR has been a member since 2024.
