In October 2024, the German hydrogen core network was decided on the basis of existing natural gas pipelines to be repurposed and new gas pipelines. This is to be implemented by 2032. The DLR Institute of Networked Energy Systems is actively involved in various projects that are focussing on converting the infrastructure to hydrogen.
