TerraSAR-X image of Tokyo River Island, taken on 7 March 2008. Due to the high resolution of this radar image, the details of this urban scene, including the high-rise buildings along the riverbank, are depicted very clearly indeed. This distinguishes TerraSAR-X capabilities from the images captured using earlier radar systems such as ERS and Envisat/ASAR, which had a much lower standard of geometric resolution. The high resolution of TerraSAR-X makes entirely new applications possible, especially in urban areas.
