Dimorphos as seen from asteroid Didymos
Didymos is a near-Earth binary asteroid with a diameter of approximately 800 metres. The smaller asteroid Dimorphos has a diameter of 170 metres and orbits Didymos. Originally, the distance was approximately 1.1 kilometres and the orbital period was 11 hours 55 minutes. The controlled impact of NASA's DART spacecraft on 26 September 2022 shortened the orbital period by 32 minutes to 11 hours 23 minutes, bringing it closer to Didymos.
