DO328
In line with the emission reduction targets set out in Flightpath 2050 (noise, CO2, NOx and particulate emission reductions in the range of 65% to 90%), a hydrogen fuel cell hybrid-electric main propulsion system for the CS-25 aircraft class is being developed as part of this joint project. This will help to achieve the goal of environmentally friendly aviation.
Project goals
In the 328H2-FC project, the 328eHY flight test laboratory platform developed in LuFo VI-1 will be used to supplement the existing hybrid-electric aircraft propulsion system with the H2 FC energy system to be developed in the 328H2-FC joint project. The H2 FC energy system comprises the energy supply via liquid hydrogen and energy conversion by means of fuel cells. The latter will ensure the power supply for the electric drive motors.
The focus of the EL Institute is on research into hybrid-electric drive topologies and their individual components for use in regional aircraft. Furthermore, the institute will deal with the aviation requirements of electrified, innovative aviation propulsion systems. This includes issues relating to the certification requirements of hybrid-electric drives, such as the parallel operation of high- and low-voltage networks on board, fire safety, electromagnetic compatibility and altitude compatibility. Environmental compatibility issues, such as the noise signature of new drive concepts, will also be addressed in cooperation with other DLR partners.
