The increasingly important simulation methods and structural optimisation processes are being used to continuously improve the challenging goals of lightweight construction and crash safety. The interdisciplinary optimisation and simulation methods must be systematically integrated into the product development process, also against the background of ever shorter product life cycles.
A major challenge in the computer-aided design and validation of various vehicle derivatives and equipment variants as well as in the structural optimisation of vehicle components is the long calculation time. To counteract this, work is being carried out on methods for simplifying FE crash barriers and vehicle models, which enable structural optimisation of body structures and can be used to tap into significant weight reduction potential.
