NGT - Chassis

In addition to the vehicle body, the interior fittings and the electrical equipment, the running gear makes a significant contribution to the total mass of a rail vehicle.

As a result, the "Vehicle architectures and lightweight construction concepts" research field is carrying out investigations, particularly with regard to the structural design of single-wheel single and single-wheel double bogies, in order to develop new heavy-duty lightweight construction solutions.

In this context, the methodical development of mass-optimised new chassis architectures is carried out. This includes the conception, design, layout and optimisation of main mechanical assemblies (frame, wheelset, etc.). One focus here is on the systematic development of highly stressed mechanical structures such as the chassis frame. For this purpose, a methodical approach developed at the institute is applied, with which lightweight-optimised and highly resilient structures can be created in a targeted manner.
