Evaluation of environmental impacts - Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of vehicles, components and materials

The reduction of emissions and resource consumption is one of the main motives for the development of new technologies for drives or components. The quantification of these potential environmental impacts is being investigated at the Institute for various issues. At vehicle and component level, alternative materials and new components can be evaluated by means of material flow analyses using standardised life cycle assessment and impact assessment methods. Our expertise is based on an extensive knowledge and data base on vehicle and material technologies as well as on the implementation of prospective LCA studies.

In addition to the emissions and resource consumption of vehicle production, vehicle operation and energy supply, the effects of various paths at the end of the product's life and various recycling options can be focussed on. From this, the evaluation of favourable recycling paths and the effects on recyclability can be derived.
