EMC laboratory

The electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of devices is analysed in the EMC laboratory. Measurements of radiated and conducted emissions are carried out in accordance with civil and military aviation standards. This enables both development support and verification resp. qualification for aircraft installations, particularly for DLR-operated aircraft. The centrepiece of the institute’s EMC laboratory is a semi-anechoic chamber, which creates a low-reflection measurement environment free from environmental, high-frequency interference.
The tests are carried out using extensive measurement technology (radio interference measuring receiver, spectrum analyser, network simulations, measuring antennas, current clamps) controlled by software. This allows us to act at an early stage in the development of projects and utilise the potential for improvement in terms of EMC for the devices to be installed. Furthermore, the EMC laboratory carries out spectral measurements on the aircraft operated by DLR, so that not only individual devices but also entire modifications can be verified.
