Condition monitoring

Condition monitoring systems are used to assess the probability of failure in the form of a health status of the system during operation on the basis of the actual load and any previous damage detected in order to prevent malfunctions or failures. In addition to avoiding catastrophic consequences in flight applications, they also enable more efficient maintenance programs.

The institute researches monitoring methods for components of electromechanical systems and pursues a systematic approach via a generic framework for the development of condition monitoring systems. This ranges from the generation of suitable raw data using test rigs and simulation models, data pre-processing through to the development of diagnostic algorithms and the prediction of the remaining useful life of the system. In particular, machine learning-based algorithms are used here.
