November 11, 2025, 12:00 – 4:00 PM
Pre-conference event at the German Aerospace Center (DLR):

Advancing Health Management in Aviation: Diabetes and Cardiovascular Research Insights in Cologne on 11 November 2025

CaVD-PACE project: “New treatments and diagnostic measures for cardiovascular diseases”
Pilot and air traffic controllers (ATCO) medical fitness is one of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) prioritised topics in the area of medical requirements to safeguard flight safety. It is generally known that one of the frequently reported medical conditions that may lead to on-the-job incapacitation, or restriction of license privileges of pilots and ATCOs, is cardiovascular in nature. Therefore, a thorough and effective cardiovascular risk assessment will significantly contribute to optimally safeguard flight safety and personal wellbeing of pilots and ATCOs.

In November 2025, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) hosts a conference on Advancing Health Management in Aviation: Diabetes and Cardiovascular Research Insights. The Institute of Aerospace Medicine at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is organizing a kick-off event for up to 25 conference participants at the DLR site in Cologne on November 11, 2025, as part of the CaVD-PACE project (CardioVascular Diseases – Pilots and ATCOs Cardiovascular Evaluation) from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.. This invitation provides you with an exclusive opportunity to visit one of Europe’s leading institutions in human health, safety and performance in aviation and spaceflight.

The DLR Institute of Aerospace Medicine operates unique facilities such as the :envihab aerospace medicine research facility, where the effects of extreme environmental conditions on humans and possible countermeasures are investigated. The European Astronaut Centre (EAC) of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the LUNA ANALOG FACILITY are located nearby. The main areas of research at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine focuses on  on cardiovascular adaptation to hypoxia, weightlessness and other extreme conditions, muscle and bone metabolism, neurosciences and cognition, as well as prevention and training for pilots, air traffic controllers and astronauts.
