Motivation

In the preceding project TRAGVIS an active gated-viewing system was developed for bad weather conditions at night under aspects of compactness, weight reduction, cost efficiency and market availability of single components. These properties aroused significant interest for different users and lead to applications in other projects (MARLIN, HEDELA, HUMAN and MUM). The adaption for various deployment scenarios and carrier platforms is extensive and results in a big and expensive allrounder or a modular design.

Goals and  Methodology

The aim of this project is to enhance the TRAGVIS sensor for new areas of application. The core of the system should be maintained for the use of maritime search and rescue (SAR). Which provides a well-established basis for customizing the system for miscellaneous requirements. This goal is achieved by the modularity of the design. The components will be separated, so that the constellation of the system can be composed for the needs of the target application. Besides the modular design the focus is on the advancement of gated-viewing in the project.

Innovations und perspectives

The key consideration is the diverse usability at ships, airplanes, helicopters and drones. Furthermore, the visibility in km range is mandatory for e.g. helicopter missions, which leads to higher power outputs or a narrow field of view (FOV). In contrast is the low-cost approach in which the power output is reduced and the application takes place in the near field. Another aspect is for example firefighting, where wavelengths in the short wavelength infrared (SWIR) spectrum are interesting. The combination and development of all these aspects for one device is impractical. Therefore, the objective of the project is to design a technology-toolbox in which the core system is easily modified for the needs of different applications.
