  • From 3 to 6 September 2024, the DLR Institute of Maritime Energy Systems will be exhibiting at the world's leading trade fair and conference event for the maritime industry.
  • The DLR Institute will be represented with a stand (No. 437) in hall B6 and will provide information about research projects and the planned research vessel.

The Institute of Maritime Energy Systems is delighted to once again be taking part in this year's SMM, the world's leading trade fair for the maritime industry. Several departments of the Institute will be represented at the trade fair and will provide comprehensive insights into their current research projects and developments.

Visitors to the stand of the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) will have the opportunity to find out more about the research vessel that is currently being tendered. This pioneering project represents an important milestone for the institute's maritime research and beyond. The EU-funded HELENUS project, which deals with the integration of solid oxide fuel cells in different types of ships, will also be presented.

The stand will provide ample opportunity to discuss the Institute's diverse fields of research and results. All interested parties are cordially invited to discuss future strategies and the challenges of the maritime energy transformation with our experts. We are looking forward to stimulating discussions and an inspiring dialogue.

The Institute of Maritime Energy Systems has developed a unique research vessel that offers maximum modularity and flexibility to investigate and demonstrate the technological developments of the coming decades in the maritime sector.

Nautical Solid Oxide Fuel Cells: Testing and Demonstration

The HELENUS project is trialling a 500 kW Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) on an MSC World Europa-class cruise ship. This SOFC will be fully integrated into the ship's structure and will generate both electricity and heat, resulting in significant fuel savings compared to conventional combustion engines.
