ENABLE-S3

European Initiative to Enable Validation for Highly Automated Safe and Secure Systems

Motivation, Objectives and Approaches

The main objective of ENABLE-S3 is to establish cost-effective, cross-domain virtual and semi-virtual verification and validation platforms and methods for highly automated and autonomous cyber-physical systems (ACPS). Advanced functional and safety test methods are developed to significantly reduce verification and validation (V&V) time while ensuring test validity for the required high operational range.

With regard to the maritime sector, simulation capabilities are being developed and analysed as part of the maritime use case (UC10) of the ENABLE-S3 initiative. These enable the system under test (SUT), the shore-based bridge (SBB) including the route planning, monitoring and ship control systems, to function efficiently in a test system (TS), the so-called co-simulator. Suitable communication systems between ship and shore are essential.
