Departments

The DLR Institute Systems Engineering for Future Mobility is divided into four departments:

Department: Systems Theory and Design

The Systems Theory and Design (THD) department researches methods, procedures and tools of systems engineering for the requirements analysis of automated and autonomous systems. These new systems also require standardization of their functional properties and restrictions with regard to their quality and economic efficiency. This includes their integrity, accountability and certifiability.

Department: System Evolution and Operation

The department "System Evolution and Operation" (EVO) considers all phases (Deploy, Operate, Observe, Continuous Feedback) during the operation of highly and fully automated transportation systems. The focus of this department is on researching methods and tools that monitor and ensure compliance with integrity, responsibility and trust measures at system runtime. This lays the foundations for safeguarding the runtime of dynamically changing or evolving systems (evolution).

Department: Application and Evaluation

The Application and Evaluation (ANE) department will develop distributed multiscale and multirate simulation technologies as well as development processes for simulations and physical test fields. Appropriate quality and validation criteria for simulations, digital twins and test fields will be developed by ANE together with THD and EVO.

Department: Safe Automation Maritime Systems

The Safe Automation Maritime Systems (SAM) department uses system engineering methods and tools to develop assistance and automation solutions in specific applications and tests them in eMIR with the help of simulation technologies and on the institute's physical test fields in the German Bight, the ports of Lower Saxony and the Elbe reference waterway.
