DLR Institute for Satellite Geodesy and Inertial Sensing is a Quantum Location

The DLR institute, together with the University of Bremen, has been included in the German Physical Society's (DPG) list of quantum locations in Germany.

In the Quantum Year 2025, the DPG initiated a Germany-wide map of quantum locations, thus highlighting the dynamic nature of the multitude of activities in both academic and industrial environments.

The Institute's activities in the field of quantum sensor technology development and the use of this technology in navigation and gravity field measurement, combined with the development of corresponding software applications, are particularly noteworthy in this context.

On 18 December 2025, Prof. Dr Claus Lämmerzahl presented the plaque on behalf of the DPG to the Institute, represented by Institute Director Prof. Dr Meike List and Dr Lars Schanz (Bremen site manager). This was followed by the presentation of a plaque to the University of Bremen.

The event was rounded off with a lecture as part of the Physics Colloquium on the topic of this year's Nobel Prize, namely macroscopic quantum effects in electrical circuits, including quantum tunnelling and energy quantisation.
