ITS-Labor

The laboratory for traffic light control and technology offers an ideal test environment. It enables tests of new technologies and processes both in the laboratory and in real road traffic. As part of the Intelligent Mobility Platform, it combines simulation and field tests for future mobility solutions.

ITS laboratory: Laboratory for traffic signalling control and technology

The ITS laboratory is a development and test environment for control units for traffic light systems (LSA). It enables the testing of new sensor components, the implementation of new hardware interfaces, the practical testing of innovative control procedures, the technical testing of the operability of the traffic light system modifications for transfer to the field and networking with other traffic light control units.

With equipment similar to that found at real junctions and additional hardware and software components, tests and demonstrations can be carried out in the laboratory itself or in a cordoned-off area. Framework agreements with cities and general contractors enable fast and target-orientated testing of new procedures and technologies in real road traffic.

The ITS laboratory thus acts as a link between computer-aided simulation and field testing under real conditions for new technology and processes in the field of traffic signal control. The ITS laboratory is a component of the Intelligent Mobility Application Platform (AIM), which contains a wide range of instruments for researching and testing future mobility in simulation and reality.
