Girls' Day 2025 – A Visit By Future Transport Researchers

- Interested students visited the DLR Institute of Transport Research on the occasion of Girls' Day 2025.
- The group met female scientists, learned about their daily work, and discussed results from various projects.
- Girls' Day takes place once a year – it was launched more than 20 years ago to inspire girls and women to pursue careers in the STEM fields science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
On 3 April 2025, our colleagues were on hand to answer questions: How does one become a transport researcher and what does the work actually entail? And how is transport research already connected to the girls’ daily life?
After a brief introduction, the group discussed some research results, which sparked lively discussions among the curious students. In a Virtual Reality demonstration, they could experience possible changes to a train station entrance and assess their impact. At our interactive touch table for the DLR MovingLab, the group delved deeper into various aspects of cargo bike use in urban logistics.
Following the visit to the institute, the research journey continued: the next stops were the DLR Institute of Transportation Systems and the DLR_School_Lab.
We thank all participating colleagues and especially our visitors for the enriching day!
