Both project management groups, located in Braunschweig and Oberpfaffenhofen, are directly responsible to the Head of Flight Departments. All project engineers are centralized in of these groups. The function of a project engineer was initially introduced in 2008, when the Airbus A320 ATRA went into service. Project engineers can be seen as the “One-face-to-the-customer”, working together with the customers during preparation and execution of flight experiments. They coordinate all required actions with the involved departments, such as flight departments or design organizations, amongst others. A project engineer provides support in all technical and economic matters, as well as in time scheduling. Based on positive feedback by the customers, project engineers have been implemented for other aircraft, too.
