                Departments

The work of the Flight Experiments facility is essentially based on its supporting pillars consisting of flight operations, development operations and project management. The facility's activities are divided between the two sites in Braunschweig and Oberpfaffenhofen for research activities on and with aircraft.

Flight Operations & Flight Facility Oberpfaffenhofen

The Oberpfaffenhofen research flight department of the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) has a particular focus on atmospheric research, earth observation, communication, navigation and radar technology.

Technical Operations & Flight Facility Braunschweig

The aircraft stationed in Braunschweig comprise 6 fixed-wing aircraft and 2 helicopters, which are equipped to the latest technical standards for aircraft research.

                Department Project Management

Project Management acts as a single point of contact for DLR-internal and external scientific users and customers.

                Department Design Organisation

DLR operates a fleet of aircraft that are used for aeronautical research or as "flying laboratories". The scientific work usually requires modifications to the aircraft.
