Test stand P2 at Lampoldshausen was designed to test rocket engines in a vertical configuration with thrust up to 100 tons. Its location at the top of a steep incline was particularly advantageous for this purpose. The test stand was built in the early sixties. It is composed of a 30 metre high concrete tower, which is sunk into the ground for half of its height. This meant that the engines could be lowered into the test chamber through the top opening and their exhaust gases vented to the exterior.
