Ms Monika Hohlmeier, Member of the European Parliaments, Visits EOC

On 21 September Ms Monika Hohlmeier, Member of the European Parliaments, paid a visit to DLR's Earth Observation Center (EOC). She informed herself about the remote sensing opportunities offered by the WorldView reception and processing systems at EOC. The ground station is operated in cooperation with the European Space Imaging company.
Cooperation with European Space Imaging has existed since 2002. The partnership began with the operation of a ground station to acquire data from the high-resolution Ikonos satellites. In 2010 the antenna was replaced by a European Direct Access Station (EDAF). It was originally designed for the WorldView-1 and -2 satellites, but after an upgrade in 2017 it can also receive data from the two newest satellites, WorldView-3 and -4.
In discussions with Ms Hohlmeier the potential and uses for the high-resolution satellite images acquired here, as well as various application fields for Europe, were presented by representatives from European Space Imaging. Mr. Hennes Henniger of EOC stressed the importance of this collaboration for EOC: "Cooperation with European Space Imaging and operating a Direct Access Station integrated in our institution with the antenna and processing systems has enormous advantages not only for understanding the technology of very high resolution optical systems but also because of the rapid access to image data for our science projects. In the past especially our Center for Satellite Based Crisis Information (ZKI) benefitted considerably".
