Discussions in Neustrelitz on cooperation with Korea Aerospace Research Institute

EOC has been receiving and processing data from Korean earth observation satellites for some eight years. Now, cooperation with Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) is to be further developed. On July 4 a Korean delegation was welcomed to DFD in Neustrelitz for a first exchange of ideas.

Both sides look forward to cooperating on developing earth observation methodologies for maritime applications, and in this context the use of upcoming small satellite systems was discussed. In addition, colleagues from the DLR Maritime Safety and Security Labs in Neustrelitz and Bremen described their current research and development priorities and demonstrated the interactive maritime safety systems that have been developed. Monitoring ocean traffic and the environment using SAR and optical remote sensing satellite data were among the various topics discussed.

Afterward, the Korean delegation had a tour of the long-term earth observation data archive and the satellite data reception facilities at DFD Neustrelitz.

Technical discussions with Korea Aerospace Research Institute scientists will continue in Oberpfaffenhofen.
