EOC hosts CEOS Workshop on Calibration and Validation of Optical Sensors
From Sept. 25 – 29, the EOC was hosting the annual meeting of the CEOS Working Group Cal/Val of Infrared and Visible Optical Sensors Subgroup (CEOS WGCV IVOS). The group consists of internationally recognized experts who are working towards the common goal of ensuring high quality calibration and validation of infrared and visible optical data from Earth observation satellites, as well as the validation of higher level products.

During the week, the up to 45 workshop participants from different institutions and space agencies (e.g., NASA, ESA, USGS, CNES, CSIRO and CAS) were exchanging on topics such as the influence of the choice of solar irradiance models used for optical missions, the permanent RadCalNet calibration sites, and the upcoming thermal calibration infrastructures. A major part of CEOS WGCV IVOS was the reporting on the sensor performance of multiple missions, including VIIRS / MODIS, Sentinel-2 and Sentinel-3, and JH-1B. The contributions of EOC included the reporting of the DESIS and EnMAP mission performance, the status of the cross-sensor harmonization within the TIMELINE project, as well as new approaches for sensor-to-sensor image transformation.
