Active Volcano near Grindavík

Iceland is the largest and most active volcanic region in Europe. On 16 July 2025 at 03:53 UTC a volcanic eruption took place there near Grindavík. It is the twelfth eruption since the beginning of the eruption series at Fagradalsfjall in 2021, and EnMAP has documented it. EnMAP is the first hyperspectral satellite developed and constructed in Germany. With its two spectrometers it analyses the solar radiance from the visible to shortwave infrared range at previously unavailable spectral resolution.
