The ESA funded „Aerosol Cloud Interactions for Cooling“ (ACtIon4Cooling) project aims at indoor research on Solar Radiation Modification (SRM) and will make use of existing data, algorithms, models and adaptations to propose monitoring capabilities of different SRM approaches, including Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (SAI), Marine Cloud Brightening (MCB) and Cirrus Cloud Thinning (CCT).

The project will be about finding natural analogues, building novel datasets and analyzing study-cases for the assessment of potential SRM deployments. Synergistic measurements of volcanic aerosols, marine clouds affected by ship-track emissions and aviation-relevant cirrus clouds will be studied.

The project is led by the DLR Remote Sensing Institute – Atmospheric Processors (IMF-ATP) in collaboration with the DLR Physics of the atmosphere Institute (PA-LID), University Leipzig and the National Observatory of Athens (NOA, Greece).
