ARD4(A)SAR

The Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) has been publishing specifications for so-called Analysis Ready Data (ARD) for several years. These may be seen as blueprints, which then have to be realized in actual products. For radar data, a total of five specifications have been published: Interferometric SAR (INSAR), Geocoded Single Look Complex (GSLC), Polarimetric Radar (POL), Normalized Radar Backscatter (NRB) and Ocean Radar Backscatter (ORB). The goal of this project is the definition of an NRB product for the satellites ERS-1/2 (1991-2011) and Envisat (2002-2011) as well as the development of an operational processor for its creation. This software will be accelerated by making use of Graphical Processing Units (GPUs) and will be published open-source. Project partners are CGI Estonia for software development and EODC for product validation.

DFD-IBS department is leading the project and is responsible for product definition and processor design.
IBS is leading the project and is responsible for product definition and processor design. These developments directly build on work done on the Sentinel-1 NRB product, which is currently being created on the terrabyte platform. These activities pave the way for multisensor backscatter data cube time series analysis on the platform.
