CATCH-MEKONG

The CATCH-MEKONG project is a joint geoscience project that aims to answer open questions and uncertainties about the most important environmental problems in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta – saltwater intrusion, land use change, bank/coastal stability, sea level rise – against the backdrop of changing conditions in the upper reaches. The thematic focus is on information gathering and product development based on innovative remote sensing methods in combination with hydrological and geomorphological modelling in the context of "river basin and coastal zone management". The establishment of an environmental information system will also support important stakeholders in their planning processes.
In addition to the DLR as coordinator, five other German partners are involved: the GFZ, the University of Hanover, the University of Würzburg, and two SMEs. In Vietnam, seven geoscientific institutions from the Mekong region are involved.
