COASTMAP

CoastMap is concerned with the development of remote sensing-based methods to support landing operations. Hyperspectral data and LiDAR data are to be used primarily for this purpose. The target parameters are determining the depth of coastal waters, obtaining a seamless topography of the transition between land and sea, and determining and evaluating the ground cover (vegetation, soil, rocks) with regard to its navigability. The test area for this is the coast around Wismar. The DFD is using spectral separation and spectroscopic methods to determine ground cover. An important aspect of the project is the investigation of the influence of scale levels in order to evaluate the potential of both airborne (HySpex, AISA) and satellite-based systems (EnMAP, DESIS).

To determine soil properties and material density, an extensive field campaign took place on site in April. The team from the DFD Land Surface Dynamics department carried out soil moisture measurements, recorded ASD spectra and took a series of soil samples, among other things.
