ECO-ARISE

Regions with high population dynamics, such as those affected by refugee flows or conflicts, are under increasing pressure with regard to natural resources and public infrastructure. At the same time, suitable tools for identifying supply bottlenecks early on and reliably assessing developments are often lacking.
In the ECO-ARISE project, the DLR is developing methods for the spatial analysis of supply situations. The focus is on the availability of ecosystem services, such as water and biomass, and the accessibility of key facilities, such as hospitals and schools. To this end, satellite data is being combined with open geodata (e.g. OpenStreetMap) and supplemented by new classification and analysis methods.
A central component is the improved mapping and assessment of transport networks to provide a basis for realistic accessibility analyses. Based on this, the DLR is developing indicators to identify potentially underserved population groups. Additionally, the analyses incorporate external factors such as natural hazards or conflicts.
The results are provided for the current state and for future scenarios.
