EO4_Lake_Kivu

The Lake Kivu and Ruzizi River basin is especially vulnerable to fluvial induced soil erosion triggered by extreme precipitation events. The soil erosion risk is amplified by unprotected soils due to low vegetation cover caused by land management or droughts. For the investigation of this complex setting in the study region, the project assesses vegetation dynamics by the analysis of time-series Earth observation data and the integrative analysis of climate and in-situ data. The objective of the project is to contribute to the adaptive water- and land management in the region.

This project is cofounded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
