MACC

MACC
The pre-operational atmosphere service of GMES is currently provided through the FP7 project MACC, which is continuing and refining the provision of the main sets of data products provided by PROMOTE and GEMS, two projects funded by the European Space Agency and the European Commission respectively.
MACC's product lines include data records on atmospheric composition for recent years, and current data for monitoring present conditions and forecasting the distribution of key constituents for a few days ahead. They address the following:
- Greenhouse gases
- Reactive gases, which influence the air we breathe
- Ozone layer and solar UV radiation
- Aerosols, which affect temperature, air quality and the transmission of solar radiation.
A more detailed description of the atmosphere monitoring services developed by MACC is available in the Service Portfolio produced by the project:
The contribution of the cluster to MACC comprises:
- provision of satellite input products (aerosols/composition, tropospheric reactive gases)
- service for stratospheric ozone profile modelling based on satellite data assimilation
- service for provision of multi-continental radiation data with improved aerosol and snow information for solar energy applications
- lead of MACC user interface to collect and understand requirements from downstream services and end users
