MOSAIK
The aim of Mosaik (Model-Based Urban Planning and Application in Climate Change) is to develop an innovative urban climate model (PACE) capable of simulating the urban microclimate in major cities with a spatial resolution of less than 10 metres. The model is being developed as a user-friendly tool that can be utilised by urban planners. The approach will be based on the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model PALM and will incorporate a multi-agent model in which agents can move through the city using a movement algorithm, whilst being exposed to meteorological effects such as thermal stress, wind comfort and solar radiation exposure.
PACE will be able to simulate the climate of major cities, taking into account turbulence, indoor climate, chemical modelling and particle movement. Thanks to nesting, it enables hotspots to be modelled in fine detail at a small scale. Remote-sensing-based geoinformation on urban structure plays a crucial role in linking the model to reality.
