The project Paraguay Land Use (PARLU) is a four-year project (2012-2016) led by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Paraguay in the framework of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) of Germany. PARLU aims to foster a balance among human activities and the use of the forest by incorporating a REDD + program. PARLU is targeting two globally relevant eco-regions: the Atlantic Forest and the Pantanal. The main objective is to develop bottom-up REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) packages that will be designed according to the economic, political and social context of the two eco-regions.
DLR’s contributions to PARLU are analyses of long-term deforestation patterns of the Paraguayan Atlantic Forest including satellite time series analyses and household surveys.
