GRÜNBLICK

A simplified schematic outline of the Grünblick service.
It will allow the user to specify a GeoJSON with an area of interest and retrieve an image with biomass estimates for that area. A separate service will run in the background and periodically, using a deep learning model, re-calculate and cache biomass estimates.

The aim of GRÜNBLICK is to develop an AI-driven system for comprehensive forest monitoring, catering to industries in forestry management, environmental conservation, and land-use monitoring. It will combine state-of-the-art deep learning models with DLR developed software tools  and services to facilitate global end-to-end forest biomass querying. Our system will uniquely enhance the value of Copernicus products by utilising Sentinel 1 and Sentinel 2 earth observation (EO) data for generating precise forest biomass estimates. This  integration will not only bring the added value to Copernicus High-level Products but also offer a new dimension of utility and accuracy in forest resource management on a global scale.
