MARESEC-MARISSA

On June 20, 2022, the DLR Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures organized the "European Workshop on Maritime Systems Resilience and Security (MARESEC)". The main goals of this scientific event were the exchange between researchers in the field of maritime security and the support for further scientific cooperation. The workshop focused on the topics of resilience, security, maritime technologies as well as ELSA research ("Ethical, Legal and Social Aspects") in the context of maritime systems.

The DLR held the MARESEC workshop in the event location “Fischbahnhof” in Bremerhaven. Over the two days following the MARESEC workshop, the same location served as a venue for the MARISSA symposium (“International Symposium for Maritime Safety and Security Applications”), an event on maritime security organized by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and the Hanseatic City of Bremen. The MARESEC workshop enabled the participants to present current research projects and their latest results on site, but also in a digital format. The event further enabled the attending researchers to share their experiences and discuss their results with other members of the scientific community. Selected papers from the workshop will be published in a specialist journal after further reviews.

A highlight of the event was the "Icebreaker Event" held in the evening. The Icebreaker was arranged together with the organizers of the MARISSA Symposium, GMT and Atlas Elektronik. With the aim of building bridges between the scientific world and other specialist audiences in the field of maritime safety and security, the evening on the premises of the Bremerhaven DLR Institute opened up the opportunity for getting to know each other and for informal exchange over cold drinks. The highlight was a ship from the Oldenburg DLR Institute of Systems Engineering for Future Mobility, which served as a stage for the event in the center of the foyer.

We would like to thank all participants of the 2nd MARESEC workshop for the exciting contributions and discussions as well as everyone involved for their great support. We look forward to seeing you again at the upcoming MARESEC workshop next year.
