The DLR spin-off company Lumoview Building Analytics GmbH was founded in February 2019 by Dr.-Ing. Silvan Siegrist, Dr.-Ing. Arne Tiddens and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernhard Hoffschmidt. The company, based in Cologne, has developed a measurement system that identifies inefficiencies in thermal insulation easily and quickly. Based on collected data, the system creates 3D models and floor plans of buildings. Lumoview's founders developed the measurement technology as part of an innovation project with DLR funding. It is of particular interest to energy consulting firms and energy suppliers. Compared to the previously common infrared measuring systems, the Lumoview system is outstanding with its easier handling and the evaluation of results within a few seconds. It can therefore be used without instruction and provides immediately usable results.

The measurement device consists of a spherical panorama camera and a newly developed 360-degree infrared camera system for which a patent is pending. A software merges the two scans into one view, giving users a panoramic image of the room with a representation of its thermal properties. Based on the evaluation of the images, the company calculates the wall temperature and humidity.

In January 2020, Lumoview won the Horst Rauck Founder Award, which honours innovative thinking in the implementation of a business idea based on DLR technologies. The company emerged as the winner of the digitalBAU StartUp Award.
