SensorKids at the Scientific Symposium in Graefekiez

Parking Spaces Becoming Neighborhood Terraces
Some of the parking bays on Böckhstraße have been converted into so-called Kiez terraces. Wooden structures with integrated benches, planters, and other elements were set up. As part of the SensorKids project, children assess how the redesign has impacted the area and contribute their own perspective.

  • The symposium "Forschung zur integrativen Mobilitätswende" brings researchers together and aims to promote exchange
  • The DLR presented the project SensorKids, the results of noise measurements in Graefekiez, and initial insights into participatory research

The project SensorKids and results of the overarching Project Graefekiez were presented at the scientific symposium "Forschung zur integrativen Mobilitätswende" which has been organised by the WZB Berlin Social Science Center.

Numerous researchers were working on several topics around the traffic transformation, focusing on various thematic priorities. Emphasis was on the acceptance of transformative measures, health and well-being, as well as participation.

The DLR was presenting the results of the days of action in the project SensorKids as well as results of noise measurements in the Graefekiez. Furthermore, the relevance of the project for transport research was discussed, and initial methodological insights into participatory research with children were presented. Insights into participation showed that involving the studied groups over a longer period is necessary to strengthen the interaction between researchers and children. The children already have a lot of knowledge and opinions about traffic and the environment, which they were able to illustrate particularly well using the Photovoice method and express their wishes and requirements through AI-generated images. Both visual methods and digital support of perspective shifts like AI image generation revealed exciting insights and methodological points of reference.

After the presentation, interesting discussions about the project emerged in the plenary session.
