Chart: Support for and acceptance of GoA3+ in passenger rail transport

Bar charts show the figures for acceptance and active support for the use of autonomous vehicles in rail transport. When asked about acceptance, 36 per cent have a positive view of the use of autonomous vehicles on long-distance services. This proportion rises to 44 per cent for regional trains. When it comes to use on suburban rail services, 53 per cent would have no objections to the use of such vehicles. Around 13 per cent of respondents actively approve of their use on long-distance services; for regional services, this figure rises to 19 per cent; and for suburban rail services, 22 per cent actively support the use of autonomous vehicles.

Passenger acceptance research: Autonomous vehicles receive greater approval for passenger transport on short journeys than on long ones. Tolerance: e.g. ‘I wouldn’t mind if an autonomous train ran through my neighbourhood instead of a conventional one’. Active approval: e.g. “I would prefer an autonomous train to a conventional (non-automated) train”.
