ModGen

Powerful tool for parametric modeling and analysis of wing structures

ModGen is a tool that accelerates the development of new aircraft while simultaneously improving the quality and safety of the designs. By providing powerful, flexible, and scientifically sound software, ModGen actively contributes to shaping the future of aviation in a sustainable and efficient manner.

The early and efficient development of aircraft concepts is currently gaining importance, driven by the need for climate-neutral air travel and the development of new aircraft. Especially for (hybrid-)electric aircraft and unconventional UAVs, traditional statistics-based design is increasingly reaching its limits, as no databases of existing aircraft are available. Creating a large number of realistic structural models for the design and evaluation of different variants of an aircraft is time-consuming and costly, which poses a particular problem for small and medium-sized enterprises due to limited resources. This is exactly where ModGen comes in—a powerful tool for parametric modeling and multidisciplinary analysis of wing structures for conventional and unconventional aircraft configurations.

Key Features

  • Parametric modeling of wing structures for design and evaluation
  • Support for advanced conceptual and preliminary design, enabling the analysis of large parameter spaces
  • Integration into existing processes (e.g., DLR MONA process)
  • Models for structural optimization, load analysis, and aeroelastic stability
  • Precise estimation of wing mass

Areas of Application

ModGen is particularly suitable for the rapid investigation of a wide range of as aircraft concepts in the aircraft design process. The focus is on the parametric modeling of wings and tail structures. ModGen generates structural models for finite element analysis as well as aerodynamic vortex lattice and double lattice models for load analysis and aeroelastic analysis. ModGen also supports structural optimization based on calculated loads by creating the necessary optimization models (design variables, constraints, objective function). The models are currently being developed for use in NASTRAN.

Target Audience

ModGen users are innovation-driven institutions. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), startups, UAV developers, and research institutions in Germany and Europe benefit particularly from ModGen.
