Prime Minister of the Canadian Northwest Territories visits the EOC
In August this year, the German Remote Sensing Data Center inaugurated its satellite acquisition station in the north of Canada, in Inuvik, in the Northwest Territories. The highest representative of the Canadian government at this event was the Prime Minister of the Canadian Northwest Territories, Floyd Roland. The delegation of DLR was headed by Professor Johann Dietrich Wörner. The first acquisition antenna of the DLR opens perspectives to develop Inuvik as an international location for satellite data reception.
A delegation of the Northwest Territories, headed by the Prime Minister Floyd Roland, got itself an now impression of such sites in Europe. Beside Kiruna, Sweden, the Canadian delegation visited on 15 November also DLR in Weilheim and Oberpfaffenhofen. Chairman of DLR for Space, Dr. Thomas Reiter, welcomed the Prime Minister at the EOC in Oberpfaffenhofen. „The DLR is looking forward to a further development of good co-operation in the earth observation with Canada. The station in Inuvik is to strengthen this co-operation“said Professor Stefan Dech, Director of the German Remote Sensing Data Center. Alan Minz, Canadian consul in Munich, who accompanied the delegation answered: „In the next year the 40th anniversary of the German - Canadian technology and science agreement will be celebrated. Inuvik will be herein an important milestone “.
