Cooperation with Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT)
Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) of Norway and the German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) have renewed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen their collaboration in operating and further developing satellite ground stations. Ground segments are fundamental to EOC’s systems competence, making possible, for example, the development of new near real-time data analysis products.
The memorandum of understanding was signed in the context of a KSAT visit to Oberpfaffenhofen on November 30 by KSAT CEO and President Rolf Skatteboe and DFD Director Prof. Stefan Dech. “As a globally active and technologically leading company in the ground segment operation of satellites and in the near real-time provision of satellite data, KSAT is a highly competent and valued DFD partner. During the next few years we want to jointly explore possibilities to intensify the transfer of earth-observation-based solutions to practical use,” said Stefan Dech. Rolf Skatteboe added, “this MoU reconfirms our common interests and coordination in Remote Sensing and data reception as well as the excellent relationship between our entities and countries.”
In addition to renewing the MoU the visit was used for an exchange on current developments in data transfer technologies and industrial trends in the field of “New Space”.
Kongsberg Satellite Services of Norway is one of the world’s leading providers for satellite reception and communication. It presently operates 280 antenna systems from 26 international locations. The collaboration between KSAT and DFD dates back to the 1990s and ever since has led to joint projects and polar stations, new receiver technologies, and near real-time applications for earth observation data.
