New era begins for real-time detection of forest fires

The world's first satellite constellation for the real-time identification of forest fires was launched into space on March 27, 2025 at 15:30 UTC from New Zealand. The eight satellites of the Munich start-up OroraTech could be successfully released into a near-earth orbit (550 kilometers) by an Electron rocket from Rocket Lab. For the first time, data for controlling forest fires will be available also afternoons.

Ororatech has been in contact with EOC ever since its start-up phase. Since that time, the two organizations have been working together on joint research projects. Especially methodologies for detecting burn scars are at the focus of their cooperation.
